The demand in hemp and hemp oils is rising, but this may lead to uncertainty about the labelling of various forms of hemp oil. What is hemp oil and how is it unique from CBD oil, also known as hemp extract?
The misunderstanding is exacerbated by the lack of control on hemp-based supplements, in specific CBD oil. Deceptive and even falsely labelled goods abound. In specific, Amazon.com is a risky place to purchase CDBs with hundreds of fake and deceptive items.
We have created this post in the hope of shaking up the mystery around the various forms of hemp oil.
The Types of Hemp Oil
Put simply, it is crucial to remember that there are various types of hemp oil and each one of these has different characteristics and advantages.
Hemp oils can be separated into 3 different types:
- Hemp oil seed (Unrefined and Refined)
- CBD oil, also identified as “extract hemp”
- Essential oil of hemp
All these types of oil are derived from the crop and handled in various ways. More significantly, both of these oils provide various benefits. Understanding the characteristics of each of these products will help you learn which hemp oil you want to buy for the next time you want to try one.
Hemp Seed Oil (Refined and Unrefined)
Hemp seed oil is derived from the kernels of the hemp plant. There are 2 common methods of producing hemp seed oil:
Organic Cold-Pressed Hemp Seed Oil
This oil has a shade of green with a nutty flavour. Cold pressed hemp oil retains the nutritional quality of the hemp, so it is often referred to as “the most completely balanced natural oil.”
Unrefined, cold-pressed hemp oil is extracted at low heat. This indicates that the oil was not bleached or deodorized. You can also get hemp oil capsules for oral intake.
Enhanced Hemp Seed Oil
The refined oil is light and colourless. It may not have a lot of flavour and it also lacks the natural antioxidants and vitamins that hemp is popular for. It is because this oil is commonly used as components for body care goods, fuel, lubricants, and even plastic.
CBD Oil(Hemp Extract)
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid. It is derived from the leaves and flowers of hemp plants, for medicinal use, as a skin care product or even as a food supplement. Somewhat amusingly, CBD oil may also be labelled as a hemp derivative on product packaging, and even sometimes as a “hemp oil.”
Hemp Essential Oil
Hemp essential oil is derived from the upper flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. The flowers and leaves are steam distilled to absorb the sheer essence of the plant. This product is pale yellow to light green in appearance with a highly intense medicinal fragrance. It takes more than 50 pounds of hemp to make 1 ounce of essential oil. It has been one of the costliest oils in the world and includes no CBD or THC.
